Valencia police director Supt. Surki Sereñas said the two suspects identified as Frederic Tagurda a.k.a. Rek-rek and Pedeng Matikinon a.k.a. Santo were wounded after the shootout in Purok 12, Barangay Tongan-Tongan.

Sereñas said the suspects, who were alleged members of the “Thunder” group of the NPA Guerrilla Front 6, were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

“The physician later advised us to take the suspects because they only sustained minor wounds,” Sereñas said.

Sereñas said the police operation started after a concerned citizen called them up about four suspected communist rebels on two motorcycles in Purok 12, Barangay Tongan-Tongan.

He said that together with Army soldiers, the police went to Purok 12 but were met by gunfire.

He said the suspects ran to a nearby rice mill and two others managed to escape.

“The police officers and soldiers assaulted the rice mill resulting in the arrest of the two suspects,” Sereñas said.

He said police seized two caliber .45 pistols with 13 bullets, a fragmentation grenade, four pieces of blasting caps, subversive documents, and a Honda XRM motorcycle.
