On Thursday, police killed their 22nd drug suspect who allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to harm the police who posed as a buyer in a buy-bust operation in Purok 1, Barangay Tablon, this city.

City Police Chief Senior Supt. Ronnie Francis Cariaga identified the fatality as Marter Coning. Coning was killed by operatives from the Detective Management Desk of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office and policemen from Police Station 10, the official said.

Cariaga said during the buy-bust operation, the police were able to corner Coning near a creek after he tried to flee the raiding team.

Authorities recovered from Coning’s possession two .38 revolvers, one improvised .22 revolver, assorted sizes of sachets containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

Cariaga said he believes Coning was among the suspected pushers in their area and that other pushers are currently under surveillance.

Based on Police Regional Office’s (PRO 10) data from July 1 to Sept. 15, there have been six drug suspects killed each in the provinces of Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and in Cagayan de Oro city. Two drug suspects have been killed in Lanao del Norte, one drug personality killed each in Misamis Occidental and Iligan city.

According to the same database, PRO 10 has also arrested 949 alleged drug personalities and some 74,663 individuals who have yielded under Operation Tokhang.
