Rabaya confirmed the report that several persons have been hospitalized after showing symptoms of food poisoning in Pikit and Matalam, both in North Cotabato.

Rabaya said a family of eight was rushed to the Arakan Valley District Hospital in Antipas, North Cota-bato. They were residents of Barangay Bang-Bang and Sta. Maria, Matalam.

Rushed in the hospital were Herman Yanson and his brother Ernan of Baran-gay Bang-Bang after they complained of loose bowel movement. They just finished breakfast with cooked wild mushrooms as viand.

Also rushed in the same hospital, according to Ger-lynOyson, Arakan District Hospital chief nurse, were Ernesto Tagura, 55, Mariah Celina Gadia, 3, GennylynGadia, 23, RhumjedTagura, 10, MarestelaTagura, 15, Michelle Angel, 16, NelaginaTagura, 54 and Erica Tagura 13, all residents of Sta Maria, Matalam.

Oyson said one of the victims found mushrooms in the bush not far from their home and harvested them for dinner. Since they have plenty of harvest, they shared some of the mushrooms to relatives.

“They claimed that they have been used to eating mushrooms in the past and have not experienced abdominal pain,” Oyson quoted one of the victims. (pna)
