Authorities said the house, located at Block 26,  Lot 16, Phase 1 of Xavier Heights, belonged to Nestor Ipanag, an engineer.

Investigators said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire but they initially placed the damages at some P150 thousand.

The fire that broke out at 7:48 am sent residents into panic but fire fighters said firewalls prevented it from further spreading.

Carmen fire station chief SFO3 Samson Villarde said Engr. Ipanag was not in the house when it started burning.

Ipanag said he has been staying at his son’s condominium unit most of the time and would only check on his Xavier Heights house once in a while.

The engineer said he found out that his house was burning after his neighbor called him up.

Ipanag said his neighbor told him the fire started at the kitchen.

“Wala man kaayo koy mga appliances diha gawas sa refrigerator nga naka on tibook adlaw kay di man na puede puwason kay naa may sulod,” Ipanag said.

Fire fighters declared the fire to be under control at around 8:26 am. By 9 am, they declared a “fire out.”

The first recorded fire here this month took place at a house in Alwana Subdivision in Barangay Cugman.
