THREE people died while 26 others were hurt when a public bus overturned on the road in Purok 2, Barangay Patpat, Malaybalay City on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Insp. Jerry Paronia, deputy chief of the Malaybalay city police, identified the fatalities as Regine Abug Montemayor, 10, of Purok 2, Barangay Maligaya, Malaybalay; Irene Gaa Francis, 33, of Barangay Carmen, this city; and 14-year old pedestrian Jomiaca Tacay Maximino of Barangay Patpat, Malaybalay City.
Of the 26 injured passengers and pedestrians, Paronia could identify only two at presstime. They are SPO3 Marissa Espijon of the Impasug-ong police, and bus driver Benjamin Mahirang.
Paronia said the remains of the dead were already taken by their families while the 26 passengers who were injured are currently recuperating at Polymedic Hospital and Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Malaybalay City.
Paronia said the bus, with license plates KVR-367 and owned by Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., was en route to Valencia City from Cagayan de Oro when the accident happened.
He said a child suddenly crossed, and Mahirang swerved the bus until it flipped over in the middle of the road at around 3:40 pm Thursday.
“Iya rang kaugalingong lihok ang pagka disgrasya sa maong bus ug wala nay laing vehicle involved kay milikay lagi kini siya sa bata nga mitabok sa dalan,” Paronia said.
He said the damaged bus is now with the Malaybalay police.
