The grand prize of P 20,000 in cash and a trophy will be given to the inaugural champions.

3-3 Events & Sports, which staged the Millennials cup last October 2016, moves forward to another format that may be little known to the region since cagers got used to the usual 5-on-5 game.

With 3×3, the game is more fluid and emphasizes on quickness, reaction time and individual talent as it is a race to 21 points with a time limit of 10 minutes per game.

Individual awards would also be given to outstanding athletes in the two-day event. Special awards such as the Most Valuable Player, Mythical Three, Sneakerhead of the Tournament, Angeles Centino Sportsmanship Award, Defensive Player of the Tournament, Clutch Performer of the Tournament will be given to them.

It will also showcase side events like the slam dunk contest and three-point shootout as prizes will also be given to the best dunker and shooter.

The event is considered historic, because it will be the first basketball tournament in such format in the province of Misamis Occidental.

“We are embracing the efforts of Fiba and SBP of making the 3-on-3 format a global trend since its inception during the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore in 2010,” said Executive Director Rabboni Borbon.

As per Fiba, “it was chosen because it is a sport with a young, urban and positive image, as well as for its universality and for the limited infrastructure and equipment required to play.”

Fiba believes that the format is an excellent opportunity to attract new people to the sport and raise awareness that anyone can play in any parts around the globe.

“Keeping the vision of Fiba is a key to let the young talents discover their potential on the hardcourt. As Fiba wants it as a key motor for the development of the sport, we want to continue it by implementing this tournament especially to the cagers in Mindanao,” Borbon added.

The hosting of the Fiba 3×3 World Cup in the Philippines in 2018 also paved way for the organizers to come up with a tourney related to it.

The 3vs3 Basketball Tour is made possible by Misamis Occidental Board Member Richard ‘Voting’ Centino and Kamayan Pilipino Home Cuisine with the support of the Oroquieta City Government.

The tournament is organized by Executive Director Rabboni Borbon, Basketball Operations Manager Isidro Animas, Social Media & Communications Manager James Nicole Franz Savellon, Logistics Head Argie Lagrito and Logistics Coordinator Howell Santiago.
