Receiving the seal from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) were the provinces of Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental; the cities of Valencia City in Bukidnon, Oroquieta City in Misamis Occidental; Villanueva, Opol, and Lugait in Misamis Oriental;  Dangcagan, Impasug-ong, and Maramag in Bukidnon; Baroy, Kapatagan, Kauswagan, and Lala in Lanao del Norte; Bonifacio, Lopez Jaena, and Plaridel in Misamis Occidental.

“Many are called but only few are chosen,” said acting DILG regional director Nilo Castañares, quoting from the Bible. The provinces received P7 million each while the cities received 5 million each. The towns received P3 million each.

Castañes said the awards were given based on DILG’s criteria: good financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, social protection, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental protection, and peace and order.

Castañares said local governments that did not receive the seal probably had problems with the submission of financial records, and other required documents.

Opol, Misamis Oriental Mayor Maximo Seno said the town government would use the P3-million award for a relocation program for recent fire victims and other residents of Luyong Bonbon who are living in dangerous areas.
