IN order to get ahead of the terrorist groups’ recruitment of young people, the Philippine Army announced they have been organizing Muslim youths in the city to aid in their campaign against the Isis-Maute Group.

Fourth Infantry Division Commander Major Gen. Ronald Villanueva said the move is in response of intelligence reports that the Maute Group has been busy recruiting Muslim youths.

Villanueva said the Muslim youths of Cagayan de Oro could help them in their “deradicalization effort.”

Dako kaayo ni silag tabang sa atoa. We have members from Lanao, Zamboanga, Basilan, and even in some parts of Mindanao to help us in this effort,” said Villanueva.

Villanueva added they came up with the idea after a surrenderer of the Maute Group in Lanao del Sur confessed that remnant members of the terrorist group have been launching massive recruitment among Moro students in private and public universities across the island.

“There maybe possibilities, that they are offering the amount of money sa mga possible recruit nila to join them. Mga estudyante siguro ni nga dunay mga panginahanglan,” Villanueva said.

The commanding general hopes college students would not be swayed with any monetary offer from the Maute Group. He also hoped that the recruitment is not as rampant inside the 4ID’s jurisdiction which is the northern and eastern parts of Mindanao.

“We hope nga dili masudlan ang atong lugar sa ingon niini nga klase nga pagpangecruit sa atong mga studyante,”  said Villanueva.

However, Villanueva added, should there be an ongoing Maute Group recruitment inside their jurisdiction, they would now have a counteraction. One of these is organizing Muslim Youth in the city and neighboring provinces.
