PDEA director for Region 10 Wilkins Villanueva said the PDEA operatives had just come from Kapai town where they conducted an anti-drug campaign program.

On the way back to Marawi City, Villanueva said, armed men, who were positioned along the road, ambushed the white Toyota van of the law enforcers in Barangay Malna, Kapai town, around noontime.

He said five people were killed on spot, including a Kapai town police station worker who only asked for a free ride.

A sixth PDEA operative identified as Diobel Pacinio died on the way to the Amai Pakpak hospital in Marawi City.

Villanueva identified the PDEA operatives who were killed as Kenneth Tabulo, Kristine Mae Torlao, Joy Amar, and Binzo Dipollo.

Two others—PDEA operative Rachel Gentapanan and another non-uniformed National Police employee, Normina Dicay–are now undergoing treatment in Amai Pakpak Hospital in Marawi.
