Lt. Col. Joseph Esber, head of the Scene of the Crime Operatives-Misamis Oriental, based here, said the fetus was placed inside the small carton.

Esber estimates the fetus to be about 6 months old and that it was a female.

City Police Chief Col. Elias Hampac theorized that the fetus could have been thrown by the suspect in the river the night before.

According to a resident near the bridge, they saw the fetus inside the box at about 10 am yesterday and immediately reported it to the police.

Another resident said he saw a motorcycle stopped in the middle of the bridge at around 7 pm and heard a splash in the river. He was not able to see the driver of the motorcycle since the bridge was dimly-lit.

Hampac said they also found a pair of red short pants and a blue shirt inside the box.

“Posibli gipakuha kini sa wala mailhing inahan,” Hampac posited.

Esber said the dead fetus was immediately brought to the funeral parlor in the city.

Posibli dili taga dinhi ang naghimo niini nga salaod kay duna mi gahimoon regular nga monthly tracking ug house to house nga paagi pagsuta kinsay mga buros nga wala magpa pre natal,” a certain Sheila Macasarte, a midwife of a neighboring barangay, said.
