Maj. Evan Viñas, city police spokesman, said those arrested have cases for robbery, theft, murder, snatching, illegal drug use, violation of city ordinances while others are escapees.

Viñas said most of those arrested were caught in their houses, on streets and other public places.

“‘Oplan Galugad’ is to preempt any occurrence of criminal activity,” said Viñas, adding that “Galugad” is the Tagalog for surprise.

Viñas added that this drive does not only cover the arrest of wanted persons with standing warrants and suspects involved in criminal activities but is also a way to constrict the lair of these lawless elements and make their stay in the city uncomfortable.

He said, this will be done through respective police stations around the city.  Each station commander is responsible for his area of responsibility.

All those arrested, according to Viñas, would be brought to court.
