Over 800 stakeholders are set to gather at the Nazareth gym for the 8th Northern Mindanao town hall meeting today.

Dubbed as “Dagyaw,” the gathering is intended to communicate the good governance reforms of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, said Department of Interior and Local Government-10 Regional Director Arnel Agabe.

Dagyaw is a Hiligaynon term for bayanihan.

Isa ni ka plataporma nga nakita sa atong national government nga dapat buhaton para ang publiko mahatagan og higayon nga makauban ang dagko nga opisyales gikan sa atong national agencies,” explained Agabe.

The town hall meeting is expected to be an open, participatory governance, and strategy which means that participants can directly dialogue with national government agencies, he added.

One of the expected guest will be Presidential Communication Operations Officer Martin Andanar. Secretaries of agencies such of the Department of Health, Department of Budget and Management among others is expected to grace Dagyaw.

The Department of Budget and Management and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, with the support from the Presidential Communications Operations Office and non-government partners will be bringing the Dagyaw to the 16 regions of the country.

Agabe elaborated that it is a must that local issues will be raise directly to the national government officials.

The Dagyaw here in the city today is the 8th Regional Town Hall meeting to be conducted. Prior to this, Dagyaw was held in Pampanga, Region 3 on July 2; Region 7 in Cebu on July 9; Region 11 in Tacloban last Thursday; Caraga in Butuan on Tuesday.

From Region 10, Dagyaw will go to Calabarzon in Batangas on Aug. 13; Region 2 in Tuguegarao on Aug. 20; Region 1 in Pangasinan on Aug. 22; Region 5 in Legazpi on Aug. 27; Region 6 in Iloilo on Sept. 3; CAR in Baguio on Sept. 10; Region 9 in Zamboanga on Sept. 17 and Mimaropa in Calapan on Sept. 25.

As a platform for engagement and convergence, each regional dialogues will focus on area-specific topics to address the issues and problems experienced in the locality. In the case of Northern Mindanao, the focus will be on health, extremism, and general development.

According to Agabe, the gathering is open to all. There will be no registration fee. (with reports from pia x)
