HAVE you heard of micro pigs? They’re miniature pigs that are kept as pets.

There are people who love pigs so much, they now provide TLC—tender loving care—to pigs the same way they treat their pet dogs. I don’t know, though, if they’ve stopped eating bacon, pork chop, ham, and other pork dishes, because that would have been the ultimate TLC for pigs.

Anyway, the one selling these pigs tends to say whatever the potential pet owner wants to hear—that the pig will remain as cute and tiny as a piglet forevermore. Only for the buyer to realize later when it’s already too late that this is one humongous pig and it’s now occupying the whole expanse of the equally humongous couch in his living room.

If only the pig seller revealed the truth and nothing but the truth right from the start, the pet owner would have had the chance to decide whether he still wanted a pig or not. And that’s the consequence of truth reveals. When people reject your lie, it won’t be as painful as when they reject your truth. The truth may have set you free but you have to learn to live with its consequences.

But the truth is seldom painful, such as the fact that Nadine Lustre is H&M’s first Filipino ambassador.

Maine Mendoza also had her own moment to shine last year when she became the first Pinay to collaborate with MAC, creating a lipstick shade that’s perfect for every Pinay’s skin tone. She’s reportedly working with MAC again. Hmmm. Abangan.

But Mendoza’s truly shining moment is the fact that AlDub fans always react when they notice she’s not dating her former ka-loveteam Alden Richards. For now, the object of their fans’ objection is her boyfriend, Arjo Atayde, whose recent birthday greeting for her was their oh-so-sweet photo posted on Instagram, with the caption, “My reason for being. Happy birthday to my main.” Aww, ang sweet naman.

The world of showbiz is fraught with lies and deception, and the only one who knows the real story behind the actors’ headlines is the actor himself, a story which he may choose not to reveal to the world as he prefers to rely on his public relations (PR) team for his public image. Thus, when Mendoza says she and Atayde are “exclusively dating” and their relationship is “growing deeper with time,” is that the truth or merely her PR team talking? Because it’s possible that showbiz is all about public image and never about the truth.

After Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga performed “Shallow” at the Oscars with much love, passion, and chemistry, their “A Star is Born” soundtrack went back to No. 1 again in the Billboard charts. It first reached the same No. 1 spot in October 2018, when the movie was released.

It was Cooper who directed the film and their Oscars performance, and being the movie’s producer, perhaps even its promo. Since “you reap what you sow,” they’re now reaping the rewards and basking in the glory of good acting and an effective promotional strategy.

“Things are not always what they seem” for showbiz and whatever you learn of actors should be digested with “a grain of salt,” which is the only flavor that a sick appetite can taste—salt, salt, and more salt. No wonder lugaw sprinkled with salt is the next best thing to chicken soup for colds.

But a loveteam should always be as sweet as M Bakery’s banana pudding, and the only salt they can indulge in is the one found in seawater once they’re exchanging sweet nothings while swimming in rehabilitated Boracay.

A loveteam that doesn’t end up with each other boggles the Pinoy’s romantic heart. Imagine Lustre not ending up with James Reid. But that’s exactly what’s happening with “Ulan,” her movie with Carlo Aquino, who, by the way, has been reportedly the object of Angelica Panganiban’s hugot lines on social media.

The real story and the headlines can be as different as the North and South Poles, with only their managers, PR teams, producers, directors, families, close friends, and the real significant other aware of the truth. Yes, that’s already a lot of people but as long as they respect the code of silence, the truth will never reach the adoring fans.

The same is true in politics. If only Princeton University confirmed that senatoriable Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos obtained a college degree there, then, the Pinoy could continue to be awed by and amazed with the Marcoses’ political comeback post-Edsa. It was easier to hide the ugly truth when her father, former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, controlled everything through martial law. Take away that control and—voila!—the grating and not-so-great reveal.

And the truth is, I’m now allergic to tun-og. To that friend who “forced”—haha!—me to have dinner under the stars at a golf course two Sunday nights ago: Never again!
