The victim, 17-year-old Kyle Brent Asedilla of Barangay Kaluminan, Kitaotao town in Bukidnon, reunited with his father Lowell at around 1 am yesterday.

Police helped and protected the Maramag National High School 12th grader when he cried for help near the corner of Tiano Bros. and Tirso Neri streets at around 9:24 pm Thursday, said Capt. Rogie Ortencio, chief of the Divisoria police.

Ortencio said the police officers were on night patrol, and they were notified beforehand about an abduction.

Asedilla was snatched by at least five men near his school in Maramag at around 2 pm Thursday. He was forced into a maroon Nissan van, and then they sped off to this city, said S/Sgt. Haide Ipas.

Police could not say what the motive for the abduction was or where the kidnappers planned to bring Asedilla.

Ipas said the kidnappers were about to transfer Asedilla to another vehicle in the Divisoria area but then the teenager saw an opportunity, ran as fast as he could, and then cried for help.

“Nakadawat kami og radio message. Mao tong nag-roving ang among mga kauban ug didto ilang nakita ang biktima nga nagdagan nga nangapay sa police kay nangayog tabang,” said Ipas.

Ipas said the teenager was traumatized by his experience. ”Halos dili makatingog tungod sa kahadlok.”

The police then contacted the teenager’s family and subsequently handed him over to his father who came in a hurry for his son.
