DAVAO City and the rest of the areas serviced under the franchise of Davao Light and Power Co. can now heave a sigh of relief as a subsidiary firm of Aboitiz Power Group announced on Sunday that its “ailing Unit 1 of the two-engine coal plant” has gone back online again.

In an e-mailed statement, Sebastian R. Lacson, president of Therma South Inc., said the repairs of their Unit 1 (130-megawatts net) have been completed 14 days ahead of schedule.

“The power plant is now exporting energy to the grid. It will take several hours for the Unit 1 to reach its full capacity,” Lacson said in the statement.

He added their Unit 2 (130-mw net) continues to be in normal operations.

This development is expected to help the power crisis in the areas covered by Davao Light and Power Co. ease down.

“We thank our customers and the public for their patience and understanding as Therma South went through this critical activity,” said Lacson. (cong b. corrales)
