Iglesia Filipina Independiente has condemned the latest attempts at tagging its bishops and priests as members of the New People’s Army and the maliciously labeling them terrorists. Now, the red-tagging is closer to home as the vandals spray painted the walls of their church in Barangay Bulua.

In an interview yesterday, Fr. Horace Yangyang, parish priest of the IFI Bulua Church, said they discovered spray paintings on the wall of their church compound along Macapagal Road.

The spray paintings read: “Mga pari sa IFI terorista” and “Mga pari sa IFI NPA.”

Yangyang said they have not identified the vandals who spray-painted their walls but they have filed a blotter with the Bulua Police Station on the incident.

The parish priest denied that IFI priests are neither members of NPA nor support terrorism.

He believes that vandals spray-painted their walls on Thursday evening.

Yangyang added that IFI Bishop Felixberto Calang was the first person who saw the writings at 5:30 am yesterday.

Dako gyud ni nga pagpaka-ulaw sa simbahang IFI ug kanamo nga nagdumala sa simbahan,” Yangyang lamented.

Yangyang said they have also reported the incident to the barangay officials of Bulua and have asked a copy of the barangay’s CCTV footage in the area on Thursday evening.

He said this incident is the second time that their church has been red-tagged by unidentified vandals.

Niadtong December sa milabay nga tuig, dili to pintal ang gigamit sa ilang pagpaka-ulaw sa simbahan, kon dili mga placards to,” said Yangyang.

They have since held on to the placards for documentation purposes.

Yangyang said Calang will be issuing a public statement to denounce the red-tagging of IFI clergy soon.
