ZAMBOANGA City – The City Agriculturist’s Office is providing assistance to farmers whose crops were damaged in last week’s inclement weather.

City agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said approximately 1.5 hectares of rice with an estimated PhP60,000 worth were damaged in Barangay Manicahan, 20.10 kilometers east of City Hall during the spate of heavy rainfall last week.

He said they will provide rice seedlings and other necessary assistance to the affected farmers.

Palacat said no other weatherelated damage to crops and agricultural lands were recorded other than the reported incident in Barangay Manicahan.

He said the effects of the damage on this city’s rice supply will be minimal although the resulting damages will affect and cause a decrease in rice production. pna
