BUTUAN City–Authorities uprooted and hauled off marijuana plants that could command a price of over P15 million in a raid in Agusan del Sur over the weekend.

The Loreto town police said the raid was carried out by police officers, soldiers, and agents of the  Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at a the marijuana plantation  in Sitio Pilang, Barangay Kasapa 1, Loreto town.

Barangay officials led by Kasapa 1 barangay chairman Allan Manguinimba accompanied authorities as they uprooted 5,000 marijuana plants weighing some 125 kilograms.

Police said the catch could have been worth some P15.6 million.

Authorities turned over the seized marijuana to Loreto Mayor Ligaya Otaza who chairs the town’s Anti-Drug Council.

Most of the plants were burned but some were brought to the Police Regional Crime Laboratory for examination.

Police identified neither a suspect nor the owner of the property where the marijuana plants were found.

The Saturday raid was the third in the province since June, and was part of the police’s renewed campaign against the illegal drug trade.

The first raid took place in June 20 when authorities seized some P4.5 million worth of marijuana at Kilometer 32, Barangay Valentina, Lapaz town in Agusan del Sur province. The second, also in another marijuana plantation in Barangay Waloe, Loreto, Agusan del Sur, resulted in the uprooting and seizure of P6.6 million worth of cannabis.

Not a single suspect or landowner was identified or arrested in all the three raids.
