Around 130 individuals from 10 regions representing different sectors coming from youth, LGBT, women and indigenous people celebrated their 30th annual general meeting by conducted a colorful march at Divisoria on Saturday.

“The objective of the festive celebration march was to inspire people into taking action on behalf of those whose rights have been violated or abused and ensure that no one is left behind, alone or forgotten,” Ritz Lee Santos III, chairperson of Amnesty International-Philippines said.

Santos said their group maintains that the right to freedom of opinion and expression remains one of the cornerstones essential to public participation especially in decision making.

“This is under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 19,” Santos said.

He said, violations of the rights to freedom of expression go hand in hand with violations of other rights. The extra judicial killing is one particular human rights violation, he pointed out.

Santos emphasized that the group condemns all forms of violations.

“We want to stop all these killings. It is a violation one’s basic right to life,” he added.
