Misamis Oriental Retailers Association (MISORRA) commits to observe the 60-day price freeze on all basic commodities in a meeting with the Committee on Trade and Commerce, March 11, at Cagayan de Oro City Hall.

The price freeze was strictly implemented following President Rodrigo Duterte’s issuance of Proclamation No. 922 declaring a State of Public Health Emergency amid the increase in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

Under Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act of the Philippines, prices of the basic necessity will automatically be frozen from period when an area has been proclaimed under a state of emergency. It will take effect for 60 days unless sooner lifted by the president.

“We request the cooperation of everyone to comply on this order,” Almer Masillones, Officer-in-Charge, provincial director of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental, said.

“This declaration is to ensure the availability of basic necessity at this time at a reasonable price. We want to ensure the public that basic necessities are available and dili necessary mahal,” she added.

According to the weekly price monitoring conducted by DTI Misamis Oriental, and in close coordination with the Local Price Coordinating Council and Committee on Trade and Commerce, prices of basic commodities: P14.90 to P18.75 for sardines in tomato sauce; P20.50 to P78.75 for processed milk such as sweetened condensed filled, evaporated, evaporada, and powdered milk;

P16.45 to P38.95 for coffee refill while P4.10 to P7.85 for coffee 3-in-1 original; P17.50 to P21 for laundry soap; P29 to P65.50 for Kim; P6.45 to P7.65 for instant noodles;

P6.65 to P36.40 for iodized salt including coarse, refined, and free flowing; P6 to P78.90 water including distilled, purified, and mineralized; and P20.65 to P144.75 for candles. (DTI 10/PIA10)
