THREE media practitioners in Iligan City were arrested by authorities in connection with the cyber libel cases filed against them by a politician in the area, according to reports from the city police Wednesday.

Iligan City Police Director Colonel Dominador Estrada identified the three as Jun Lino Bacus a.k.a. Jun Bacus, 60, married; a resident of Zone Neptune 1, Barangay Suarez.

Also arrested were John Philip Burlado, 42, married, residing at St. Michael Heights, Barangay Buru-un; and Renato Ancis, 72, married of Purok 2, Buru-un, all of the said city.

Bacus is the station manager of Radyo Bandera located at Sitio Nonucan, Barangay Ma. Cristina of the same city.

While Burlado and Ancis are radio program director, and anchorman respectively of the same radio station.

They were arrested by personnel assigned at police station 2 led by Police Major Jose Marlon Agabon, and Anti-Cybercrime Group led by Police Lt. Col. Lemuel Gonda at their station at 8 am.

In an interview with Bacus, he told his listeners that the said arrest was in connection with the case filed by then Congressman and now the newly elected Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao.

Bacus said it was regarding to his expose’ last January 2021 wherein a group of individuals (probably supporters of Siao) were seen being transported using a mini-dump truck going to the gym for a certain activity.

“Kadto akong komentaryo pagtabang kadto sa atong gobyerno kay naa kita niadtong higayona sa pandemya ug delikado ang pag dikit-dikit sa katawhan,” Bacus said.

After their arrest, they were brought to the said station for thumb printing and mugshots.

Police detained them at Iligan City Jail located at Barangay Tipanoy.

Judge Silvestre Orejana, Jr. of the Regional Trial Court 12, Branch 5, Iligan City, who issued the warrant of arrest, recommended Bacus P120,000 for 2 counts. For Ancis another P120,000 for 2 counts; and P60,000 for Burlado for a 1 count.

All of them were released from detention yesterday at 7 pm after posting bail bonds for their temporary liberty.
