WITH less than two months to go into the 100-day deadline on vaccination targets, the City Health Office (CHO) will deploy teams in Cagayan de Oro City’s hinterland barangays to ramp up their efforts.

“Based on the presidential 100-day directive on vaccination targets, we were able to vaccinate 172,261 of the targeted 227,591 of those aged 12 years old and older, while we vaccinated 48,947 of the targeted 54,124 senior citizens or about 37 percent and 81 percent respectively (as of Aug. 8 ),” said Dr. Ina Grace Chiu, CHO immunization program medical coordinator.

During Monday morning’s Covid-19 response press briefing, Dr. Chiu said as of Aug. 8, the city has 62 days to go to meet the mandated national vaccination targets of 50 percent of the general population and 90 percent of the senior population to achieve Alert Level Zero status.

Cagayan de Oro City is still under Alert Level 1 from Aug. 1 to 15 with two-week intervals for any change or retention in alert level status.

The national government is still implementing an alert level status for local governments across the country as the extension for the state of public health emergency declared by former president Rodrigo Duterte in September last year expires on Sept. 12 this year. An Alert Level Zero status means all health restrictions will be removed.

“So our overall target for booster shots as of Aug. 8 is 60,507 of whom 55,330 are those aged 12 years old and older and 5,177 are senior citizens,” Dr. Chiu said.

She said the top 10 barangays with the most number of residents that had no booster shots were Barangays Pigsag-an, Dansolihon, Besigan, Tignapoloan, Tumpagon, FS Catanico, Tagpangi, Bayanga, Taglimao, and Mambuaya.

“The residents there were unable to return for their booster shots. So we would schedule our visits to them to administer their booster shots. We already visited some of these barangays last week but still, we will return to these areas,” said Dr. Chiu.

She also confirmed that City Hall will start vaccinating and administering booster shots to their employees and their families this coming Friday. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
