A 34-year-old Barangay Patag resident in Cagayan de Oro City is now languishing in jail for the illegal discharge of firearms and illegal possession of a bladed weapon at 5 pm yesterday.

Police Major Mario Mantala, Jr., Police Station 4 commander, identified the suspect as Bong Cagadas, single, and a resident of Zone 1 Sitio Buenavista of the said barangay.

Mantala said that before the arrest their office received a call informing them that a certain person was firing his gun.

Immediately personnel from the said police station proceeded to the area ang caught the suspect in the act of possessing an improvised shotgun made of a steel pipe locally known as ‘sumpak.’

The responding team then requested the suspect to surrender his firearm to which the latter agreed.

Cagadas was bringing a sling bag during the incident. When the police checked it they found a .22 caliber revolver loaded with four bullets, a kitchen knife, and a Philippine National Police manual.

The improvised shotgun was loaded with a 12 gauge bullet.

Mantala said the suspect will be charged with violations of Republic Act 10591 also known as the illegal discharge of a firearm, and illegal possession of a bladed weapon.

The confiscated firearm will be turned over to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office-10 for ballistics examination and the suspect for paraffin examination.
