A STILL unidentified armed group bombed a transmission tower of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay Linamon, Ramain, Lanao del Sur, on Tuesday.

The toppled NGCP Tower No. 25 served the Agus-Kibawe 138-kv line.

It was the same tower that was bombed by an armed group on Dec. 24,  2015, according to Elizabeth Ladaga, an NGCP spokesperson.

Repair works were stalled for three months because the bombed tower is located within a private property of a family that demanded compensation.

“This is the 6th bombing of an NGCP tower this year.  Restoration of the Tower 25 will commence as soon as the area is secured,” said Ladaga.

She said the NGCP has been stressing out that bombings of its towers were a public disservice because these result in power interruptions.

The bombing came the same day the NGCP energized the crucial Agus 2-Baloi 138-kv line after resolving a roadight-of-way problem.

Ladaga said NGCP did this by invoking a Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution. She said law enforcement agencies helped during the clearing operations.

Ladaga said the Agus 2-Baloi 138-kv line is one of eight crucial lines that gave NGCP headaches because of uncooperative landowners with unreasonable monetary demands.

“It is unfortunate that some of these  claimants are preventing us from conducting line maintenance activities on the basis of land  payment claims addressed to Transco,” she said

Ladaga said the NGCP would have wanted all eight crucial lines cleared before the Monday  elections to fully  mitigate powerelated issues.
