First Infantry Division spokesperson Lt. Col. Jo-Ar Herrera said, over local radio here, there are still 10 to 15 percent of the Maute Group entrenched in the besieged city of Marawi.

Herrera suspects the terrorists might be hinding in the old tunnels NPC dug under the city years ago.

Tulungan ninyo kami para tuluyan ng mapuksa sila. Kayo ang pag-asa,” he  appealed to the NPC engineers.

It was learned that a tunnel constructed in Marawi has been abandoned because another tunnel is currently being used now for power distribution from hydro electric power coming from Lake Lanao.

The tunnel is said to be huge and can even accommodate big trucks, thus it might be used by the terrorists.

Many of the engineers who had worked with NPC have gone to work abroad now but there might still be engineers left behind who knows about the tunnel, he said.
