THE birth of Toyota Cagayan de Oro Inc. 21 years ago marked the beginning of a vibrant car industry in the city that made competitors follow suit. Today, it’s not just Toyota. Even foreign brands we only heard or saw in magazines before are now in the city.

But what made Toyota click? To a discerning car owner, reliability and good looks are not enough. Availability of spare parts spell a big difference. This is one big factor everybody is talking about. And with full support and availability of spare parts comes excellent service. This particular department has so far gathered a few awards to its credit.

A good car has to be driven by a good driver. Toyota Cagayan de Oro Inc. just celebrated its 21th anniversary on July 4, 2018. At the front seat is its president Betty Lu taking the wheel with unwavering dynamism. She is complemented by her executive vice president and general manager Peter LimLoSuy whose business acumen is perhaps, the envy of many.

Another feather in one’s cap, so to speak, Toyota Cagayan de Oro Inc. will soon move to a new home at Km. 2 national highway, Kauswagan. A monument of success, we might call it.

What makes this new home different? Basically, it has bigger and more modern facilities. It will also have more services bays to accommodate a growing clientele.

The area is so designed that the elevation cannot be reached by flood waters. This is to assure the safety of your cars.

The opening, according to information, will also coincide with the launch of a new model called “Rush,” a medium-size family vehicle between an Innova and Avanza models.

To know more about “Rush,” visit the new home and be the first to book.

To the management and staff of Toyota Cagayan de Oro Inc., our heartfelt felicitations and more power to you!

Aug. 2 brings back good and bad memories. It was on Aug. 2, 1968 that the Ruby Tower collapsed due to a strong earthquake. It claimed almost a thousand lives, including a newly wed couple — one of whom happened to be a  — neighbor, before they got married.

The collapse exposed the alleged anomaly in the building structure and materials used. Was there an investigation? I was on vacation that time and things happened so fast. The next moment, we heard the sound of fire trucks and people were talking of the fire at University of the East. After a while, we discovered that the Ruby Tower can no longer be seen from our rooftop.

Aug. 2 is also the birthday of my kumare Ruby Du who sold me the winning ticket number 0082. I won a brand new VW Beetle. See the coincidences? So much about superstitions!

The front page of The Philippine Star on July 30, 2018 carried the story, “Koko: Fakers, usurpers out to destroy PDP-Laban.”

Don’t blame them, Koko. You didn’t learn from the mistakes of your father. You have bastardized your party by accepting political prostitutes just to attain the super majority. But who are the majority in the super majority? Aren’t they the turncoats?

Let me just quote a few lines by columnist Ana Marie Pamintuan of the same paper:

“…Quimbo’s LP group joined the super majority… to protect the LP’s leader, Vice Pres. Leni Robredo from impeachment.” “Quimbo remembers cautioning some PDP-Laban stalwarts at the time against expanding too fast without screening the defectors.”

Some people never learn!
