POLICE on Thursday gave a glimpse of how a witness to the Dec. 2, 2017 shooting death of University of Science and Tehnology of Southern Philippines president Ricardo Rotoras could become a millionaire overnight.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office showcased the man who supposedly helped authorities in arresting the primary suspect in the Dec. 31, 2016 killing of traffic law enforcer Cris Cabingas near Cogon market.

The informant received a P100-thousand city hall check given to him by city police director Senior Supt. Robert Roy Bahian.

Police said the same could happen to anyone who could help authorities in arresting suspects in the December 2017 killing of Dr. Rotoras.

Mayor Oscar Moreno has offered a P1-million reward while Rotoras’s fellow Masons pledged to add another P1 million. There is a proposal in the city council to add another P500 thousand but it has remained a proposal until now.

Bahian said the check was a commitment made by Moreno to reward anyone who provided useful information against Cabingas’s killer.

The suspect, Mohaimen Mama Macauyag, 30, was arrested last year and is now under custody of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Macauyag was caught by the police on Capt. Vicente Roa St. near  Yacapin St. on Oct. 17, 2017.

SPO2 Jake Sto. Domingo, who investigated  Macauyag, said the suspect  confessed to being a hired gun.
