MAYOR Oscar Moreno yesterday said he stopped himself from imposing curfew hours in the city because there were many things to consider in a highly urbanized city like Cagayan de Oro.

“This is a very difficult balancing act,” said Moreno.

He said that while the city welcomes people from other places to come, he also understands why authorities need to be strict in the checkpoints.

“We need people to support us in government,” he said.

He said he was leaving the decision to impose curfew hours in the hands of barangay officials in coordination with the police.

Moreno said he was leaving the implementation of curfew hours to the barangays.

“What is the most important is that we are united in guarding the city,” Moreno said. “Kung wala kita’y lakaw, dili na himoun sa gabii, apan kinahanglan gyud nga dunay maglakaw-lakaw pud para naay makatabang in monitoring. Community involvement here plays a vital role in monitoring suspected terror groups.”

Moreno, chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council, called on the police and military to continue implementing security measures throughout northern Mindanao in an effort to thwart off possible terrorist attacks meant as diversionary tactics.

He called for more close security coordination among local government units, the police and the military.
