The 13-member team from Northern Mindanao region is Philippines’ representative to the 2019 Little League Baseball for Asia-Pacific and Middle East week-long regional tournament starting today, according to delegation coordinator Raymund Antolo yesterday.

Antolo said that aside from Saipan-based CNMI team, Philippines, which is grouped under Pool B, would be pitted against powerhouse team Japan tomorrow, and Pakistan on Tuesday for the single-round round robin.

Pool A is composed of defending champion and host (South) Korea, China, India and Hong Kong.

“Let’s pray we’ll make it to the top 2, advance the cross-over phase and, hopefully, to the championship,” said Antolo.

Deped regional director Arturo Bayocot and Misamis Oriental schools division superintendent Randolph Tortola are with the 20-member Philippine delegation.

Two years ago, the baseball intermediate team, 11 to 13 years old, from Jimenez Central School, Misamis Occidental—the first Philippine team to represent Northern Mindanao—brought home bronze medals for the country.

The championship game is set Friday, the winner of which would represent the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region in August for the 2019 World Series in California, US.
