FORMER mayor Vicente Emano was supposed to formally declare his bid for the city’s mayoral post on Sunday. It did not push through “because of the brownout (blackout),” asserted Councilor Alexander Dacer.

Dacer said the Padayon Pilipino decided to call off the party’s meeting with its supporters where Emano had been expected to officially announce that he would be a mayoral candidate next year because of the blackout scheduled by the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco).

He said Emano’s formal declaration would be announced later. But even without a blackout, Emano would still not be able to make the announcement in public because he was under intensive care at the Capitol University Medical City (CUMC) in Gusa.

Dacer lashed out at Padayon Pilipino’s political enemies. “Ipaghulat lang sila kay nagpa-condition pa si Mayor Emano,” he said.
But according to Councilor Ramon Tabor, Emano already declared his bid for the city’s mayorship when he met with barangay chairpersons at Ultra Winds resort in Taguanao early this month.

“Mao na ’to ang iyang declaration kay Sept. 20 man unta to ang gusto ni Mayor Emano pero misinggit man ang mga kapitan nga ‘now na,’ so nag-declare na lang si mayor adtong panahona,” Tabor said.

Sunday’s aborted announcement was supposed to have taken place exactly a week after Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District announced on air that he has decided to run for mayor in 2016.
