When the armed group failed to show a warrant of arrest, the farmers formed a human barricade around Benemirito.

“Wala ra madala sa mga nagpaila nga pulis kay gibabagan sa mga kaubanan,” said Marivic Baylon who was with Benemirito during the incident.

Benemirito is among 364 activists from Mindanao included in the Department of Justice’s petition before the Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Manila on Feb. 21. The DOJ listed 657 persons from various parts of the country who it wanted to be tagged as members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army. (cbc)
