THE fire that broke out on Burgos Street on Friday night destroyed 28 houses, the fire bureau said over the weekend.

Authorities also placed the structural damages in the Barangay 17 fire at some P1.2 million.

Fire Insp. Laurence Velarde said the fire broke out at around 7:46 pm and it quickly spread.

Fire fighters said it reached 4th alarm level until they placed the situation under control at around 8:34 pm. By 9:13 pm, they declared a “fire-out.”

Velarde said investigators were still trying to establish what really caused the fire although witnesses have come forward and pointed to the kitchen of a three-story house of one RaymundTritoras.

There was no casualty report.

Among those who lost their houses were barangay councilor Gloria Baldon, Jimmy Ilago, Emmanuel Bertudazo, Emmanuel Pahilan, MarlynBaldon, JobertApag, CyrelApag, Carmen Diez, Tata Loor, Joy Loor, and Cent Digamon.

Many of the displaced residents have gone to a chapel in Barangay 17 and turned it into an evacuation area. (NitzArancon)
