Calizo looks into benefits for tanods

THE  City Council committee on police, fire and public safety chaired by Councilor Romeo Calizo has started discussions on the group insurance and other benefits of barangay tanods, as  provided for in Ordinance No. 13273-2017, “An ordinance creating the Barangay Tanod Development Committee, providing its composition and functions, providing financial assistance to barangay tanods and for other purposes.”

A representative of the City Legal Office said the committee, which shall coordinate all efforts and initiatives for the equal promotion and welfare of the ronda tanod, has not been convened.

Noting this, Calizo manifested the need to revisit the ordinance and formulate the mechanics on the proposed group insurance and other benefits. He also cited the need for the creation of a permanent office for the Barangay Tanod Development Committee, which shall be under the supervision of the City Administrator’s Office.

Calizo requested the city police director, as the chairperson of the committee,  to convene  as soon as possible. (cli)
