CAMP ALAGAR is beaming as it announced that crime incidents in northern Mindanao have dropped substantially in the first quarter of this year in comparison to the same period last year.
Police regional director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb said the crime index dropped by 38.13 percent based on the crime statistics of Camp Alagar for the first quarter of 2018.
Last year, the region posted a total of 5,297 crime incidents in the first quarter but in the same period this year, Camp Alagar counted 3,276 crime incidents. In the first quarter of 2016, northern Mindanao posted a total of 5,714 crime incidents.
Pacleb attributes the dive in crime incidents in the region to Camp Alagar’s continued campaign against illegal drugs.
He said crimes such as robbery, physical injury, domestic violence, rape, and theft could be attributed to the high usage of illegal drugs across the region in the past two years.
Police also arrested 534 drug suspects in northern Mindanao from January to March, this year.
The police have also visited some 6,571 houses under its “Oplan Tokhang” campaign that resulted in 504 drug users admitting to using illegal drugs.
During the first quarter, Camp Alagar claimed that 107 drug pushers surrendered.
In a press statement, police said there were 452 operations conducted throughout the region that resulted in the arrest of 534 people and the confiscation of some 629.66 grams of shabu and 3,696.18 grams of dried marijuana leaves.
Cases were filed against 534 arrested people, it said.
Camp Alagar also said the police’s illegal gambling campaign in the region resulted in the arrest of 560 people and the seizure of P738,037.75 in bets, and 321 cases filed in court for the period covered.
On the campaign against loose firearms, 93 operations were conducted resulting in the arrest of 98 people and the confiscation of 53 light weapons and 87 smaller guns from the suspects.
Police said 274 operations conducted that resulted in the arrest of 20 most wanted people and 254 other fugitives in the region.
The campaign against carnapping resulted in the recovery of 38 motorcycles and two vehicles that resulted, and the arrest of 37 people.
Fifteen operations were conducted that resulted in the arrest of 22 people engaged in illegal logging. There were three cases filed in court and 18 other cases were referred to the environment department for appropriate action, according to Camp Alagar.
Police said nine operations conducted resulted in the arrest of 31 people engaged in illegal fishing. Four cases were filed in court while five others were referred to other law enforcement agencies.
Pacleb said the statistics only show how effective Camp Alagar has been in doing its mandated task to rid the region of the scourge of illegal drugs.
Even with the glowing achievement of Camp Alagar, Pacleb said he has ordered all provincial and city police directors in northern Mindanao to advance their campaign against illegal drugs and launch information advocacy, and implement new methods to defeat criminality in the region.
