Caraga crime rate drops as police intensifies ‘Oplan double barrel’

BUTUAN City — Since July 1 this year to date, a total of 30,183 self confessed illegal drugs shabu users and pushers in Caraga Region responded to authorities in the different municipalities, cities, and provincial police offices in the region.

Senior Insp. Charity Galvez, regional information officer of the Police Regional Office 13 said a total of 214 persons have been arrested; six have been killed; and P36, 861, 529 worth of illegal drugs have been confiscated since the implementation of Project Double Barrel from July 1 to August 10 in the region.

Galvez said their performance could be attributed to the intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign in Caraga Region which is composed of five provinces, six cities and 68 municipalities.

He added crime incidence in the region has substantially reduced in July, this year when compared with the same period last year.

Accordingly, the number of crimes documented by the Police Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) this July, crimes dropped to 831 from 1,246 cases in the same month last year.

Crimes against property decreased by 77% while crimes against persons also declined: homicide 60%, physical injury 36%, and rape 33%, respectively. (ben serrano)
