BUTUAN City – Caraga’s agriculture and services sector posted negative growth as region’s economy slowed down for two years now in the field of  agriculture, fisheries, forestry, finance, real estate, renting and business activities or RERBA for two years, 2013 and 2014.

However, in Mining and Quarrying, construction and manufacturing sectors, Caraga Region posted positive growth on these sectors but on Electricity, Water and Gas supply sector due to its high cost, it posted negative economic impact to people and communities, in fact plummeted or took a nose dive to 6.6% in year 2014 or last year from 24.7 in previous year 2013.

This was the official content of the 2014 Report of regional economy of Caraga Region compiled and released by the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA that covered economic activities in the region in two years

There is no indication, the region’s agriculture sector can recover this year attributed mostly of none rehabiltation and repair of damaged irrigation canals, facilities and infrastructures damaged by flooding and typhoons and almost zero large scale investments including financing for the agriculture sector observed for the first and second quarters of this year 2015.

It was also noted that corruption like that of DAP, PDAF, liquid fertilizers and increasing aging farmers in rural agri producing were also factor of agriculture’s negative growth for Caraga.

Thus, food supplies need like rice, fruits, vegetables, chicken and even meat.forCaraga’s present population will mostly depend from outside sources or coming from other areas.

According to Apura, the biggest share to Caraga Region’s GDP or Gross Domestic Product is the Services Sector which accounts to 45.7% while industry and agriculture, hunting, fisheries and forestry sectors combined shared of 34.7% and 19. 6% respectively to the region’s GDP.

Apura told MGSD through a follow up question for clarification that hotel and lodging houses occupancy including those restaurants, cafeteria and eateries catering local and foreign tourists, posted decelerated or negative growths. Apura explained when PSA surveys were conducted, owners and management of hotels, restaurants, eateries and other leisure centers complained on low revenues and incomes posted for two years now.

During news conference here for the 2014 PSA Official Report on regional economy for Caraga, Apura told guests that of the total 17 regions of the country, four regions only recorded accelerated growths while the rests including Caraga Region posted negative or decelerated growths.
