There was no casualty report, but investigators placed the structural damages at P2.5 million.

The dormitories provided shelter to mostly students of the Cagayan de Oro College and Liceo de Cagayan University.

SFO3 Samson Velarde, Carmen fire station chief,  said the fire broke out at around 12:04 pm at the second level of the a building at Eddie Gold Compound owned by Eduardo Yee.

Velarde said the fire quickly spread to a second dormitory, also owned by Yee, an internet cafe, and an eatery.

He said fire fighters placed the situation under control at 12:31 pm, and a “fire-out” was declared at around 1:11 pm.

Investigators said they have yet to find out exactly what caused the fire.

Yee’s watchman, Michael Sabella, confirmed that the fire originated from the second level of the Yee’s dormitory. He said he tried to stop it from spreading with a fire extinguisher “pero dili gyud makaya sa fire extinguisher kay dako na kaayo ang kalayo pagsaka nako sa 2nd floor.”
