AS the City of Oroquieta continues to contain the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 with no new cases, Mayor Lemuel Meyrick Acosta said they are focusing on helping business establishments to jumpstart local economy as part of their transition to the “new normal.”
“Now that we are on the road to recovery, the city government should be more aggressive because we are trying to position Oroquieta this time as the center of trade and commerce in the province and at the same time an alternative investment destination in Region 10,” Acosta said during an episode of Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Network Briefing News, June 20.
Acosta also expressed his gratitude to the Oroquietanons for helping the economy to rebound.
“I am very thankful to Oroquietanons that despite the pandemic, many businesses entered Oroquieta, helping our economy to rebound. Robinsons is now here.
Gaisano will soon open and all other businesses will be coming soon. These are some of the exciting things that our fellow Oroquietanons can look forward to in the city,” he said.
For the next three years, the mayor also plans to continue upgrading infrastructures to support economic activities in the city.
“As the capital city, kailangan namin ng magagandang (we need beautiful) roads, drainage system, water system, school buildings, hospitals, etc. These are the things that we are going to focus on in the next three years so that Oroquieta City will level up in the coming days,” he added.
Acosta also helped his 47 barangays through initiating priority projects, giving away P1 million each barangay in the previous year.
“For this year, tig-2 million na ang binigay ko sa kanila (I have given them P2 million each). We’re trying to empower the barangays with these project such as farm-to-market road, barangay hall, barangay office, covered court, patubig and etc., as long as it is the priority program of the barangay in short these are needed in the community,” he said.
