City administrator Teodoro Sabugaa Jr. yesterday said the matter has been brought to the attention of the city legal office, and he was merely waiting for its legal opinion before the local government presses charges against Albert Sarmiento, the alleged forger who was arrested on Monday in downtown Cagayan de Oro.

Sabuga-a said the 42-year-old Sarmiento and other suspects identified by the police were facing more cases from city hall in addition to the one filed by the police this week.

Police are looking for two other suspects named by Sarmiento. They are Mario Ampoon and Gina Salduha.

Police said a raid at a shop where Sarmiento was caught resulted in the seizure of many fake school diplomas and public documents, including forged a birth certificate from the civil registry at city hall.

Sarmiento, a resident of Sitio Macanhan, Carmen, this city, was arrested by the Divisoria police headed by Chief Insp. Julius Clark Macariola.

Sabuga-a said Sarmiento’s arrest should serve as a lesson to all those who fake documents.

“Di to angay buhaton ni bisan kinsa. Ako pud giaghat ang uban nga dili magpahimo og mga peke nga dokumento. Para man lugar na unsa, para lang ingnon graduado ka ana nga kurso?”  Sabugaa asked rhetorically.
