While stereotyping of single parenthood—even in this so-called information age—is quite challenging, the social welfare and development office in cooperation with the National Housing Authority (NHA 10) has designed a program response to help single parents cope the challenges of raising their children in the city.

This city’s social welfare and development office focal person on solo parents, Apple Tabafa said they currently have listed some 553 single parents as recipients to its program for single parents here.

At least 40 single parents in Barangay Carmen, this city, received sewing equipment and materials as part of the program’s alternative livelihood component.

Tabafa said CSWD’s single parents program is still open for new single parents.

“Our office is very much open for new single parent to register to the program so the city can assist them to be productive single parents,” said Tabafa.

Under Republic Act 8972, local governments are encouraged to assist single parents and should be given opportunities so they can raise their children in the city.

All single parentecipients, Tabafa added, under the program would be entitled to medical and educational assistance. (CIO)
