OFFICIALS suspended classes in some parts of Mindanao due to the inclement weather yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said heavy rains with lightning and strong winds were expected due to thunderstorms over portions of Surigao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, and Zamboanga del Sur.

In Cotabato City, Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi suspended classes in the elementary, high school, and college levels.

Mayor Eliseo Garcesa Jr. of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, also declared the suspension of classes in the pre-school, elementary and high school levels.

Garcesa said it was gloomy in Pigcawayan since Thursday night, and he decided to suspend classes “for the safety of the kids.”

Classes were also suspended in Midsayap, North Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, due to heavy rains. (pna)
