MITIGATION of climate change impacts has become inevitable.

Climate change mitigation measures consists mainly on reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Too much concentration of GHG, primarily Carbon, in the atmosphere has caused increasing in global mean temperature.

Renewable energy like solar, hydro, biomass, wind are the cleanest sources of energy remains the cleanest. Its carbon emission is from zero to negligible. However the cost of putting renewable energy generation plants, in general, is not yet in parity with fossil-fuel fed power generators.

The exception would be liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). LPG, a mixture of natural gases propane and butane, is widely used as cooking gas and of late, motor vehicles.

Compared to diesel, carbon emission from natural gases is around 30 percent less.

Pryce Gases Inc. (PGI), is aggressively diversifying the use LPG. Recently, it partnered with GreenGear of Italy in bringing to the Philippine Market LPG-powered generator sets. Gensets are still widely used in the country because it backward power system is vulnerable to frequent power outages. Gensets are also necessary machines in far flung barangays not reached by the electrification.

Back-up power is very important in businesses. In fact, studies have revealed that diesel-powered generators are silent but significant contributors to high carbon emission. The data storage industry, including our call centers, factories and malls use huge diesel-fed generators as back up power supply. And when these machines are turned on, it emits black, carbon rich fumes.

The initiative of Pryce Gases Inc. a Filipino company that has come out as major player in an industry lorded over by multi-national firms to market LPG powered generators is laudable and indubitably a step in the right direction in a world beset by climate change.
