This is now the primordial target of the local government of Cagayan de Oro in giving a decent home under the program of City Mayor Oscar Moreno’s Cagayan de Oro Shelter Plan for 2014-2022.

Moreno said that at least 1,500 residence in the city who joined the 2015 Caga-yan de Oro Housing Summit held at Grand Caprice on Tuesday. He added that the goal of the local government unit for the next eight years is not only to provide these households with decent shelter, but also to them achieve security of tenure and become sustainable and resilient communities.

“Every resident should be the owner of his or her house and every relocation site should be treated as a subdivision,” he said.

He said the progressive development of Cagayan de Oro comes with the challenge to make shelter as one of the integral components, and the City Housing Summit is designed for this specific purpose.

“The summit gathers all stakeholders in the city’s housing sector with the aim of understanding its issues and concerns, and addressing these through effective and sustained collaboration,” said Moreno.

The multi-discipline committee is composed of the Shelter and Housing Development Multi-sectoal Task Force (SHDMTF) of this city and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HF HP), the Ardiocese of Caga-yan de Oro (ACDO), and Xavier university-Ateneo de Cagayan (XU).

The main objective of the committee is to bring together housing stakeholders–the government, the private sector, the academe, civil society organizations, non-government organizations, and community associations – to commit in addressing the identified housing needs, especially for the marginalized sector in the city.

“This is a product of a long deliberative and inter-active process,” he said.

Moreno said major concerns and areas for collaboration are categorized in the seven themes, which are also the areas where the various stakeholders can collaborate in formulating and implementing the solutions.

The categories are: Security of Tenure, Land Acquisitions Developments and Housing Constructions; Livelihood and Employment; Health Education and Environment; Public Safety Peace and Order; Infrastructure and Basic Services and the Creation of the City Housing Department and Strengthening of Household and Organizations.
