BUTUAN City — Operatives of the Surigao City Police Intelligence Division arrested a policeman assigned here in Caraga Region in a buy-bust operation in Purok 12, Sitio Kabalawan, Barangay San Juan, Surigao City last Friday.
Senior Insp. Ernesto Marcos, Jr., who led the operation, identified the suspect as PO1 Michael Niño Ballero Morales, 34, married, assigned at the Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office.
The provincial police office claimed Morales was absent without leave (Awol) at the time he was arrested.
Seized from Morales were P37,000-worth according to DDB value of suspected shabu contained plastic sachets, a mobile phone, and P1,000 bill used as marked money in the buy-bust operation.
Surigao City Police have filed charges against Morales.
In another development, a barangay chairman in Cabadbaran City was shot dead by unidentified assassins riding in tandem on Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as Teofilo Curato III, 48.
Curato was the 89th victim of riding in tandem gunmen in a killing spree of suspected drug pushers and users in Caraga Region.
Witnesses tried to save Curato by bringing him to a local hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
