POLICE on Monday arrested whom they considered a “high-value target” who allegedly sold illegal drugs to students and scions of prominent families in the city during a buy-and-bust operation in Kauswagan here.

Chief Insp. Harvey Abellanosa identified the suspect as Anton Trinidad, 27, of RER Subdivision in Kauswagan, this city. The suspect was arrested some 100 meters from Liceo de Cagayan University on Monday afternoon.

Abellanosa said Trinidad was arrested by officers from the Detective Management Desk of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) and Police Station no. 4. The team of arresting officers was led by Abellanosa and Chief Insp. Gil Agpaoa.

Abellanosa said Trinidad was caught after he allegedly received a marked P500-bill from an agent who posed as a buyer.

He said police seized a substantial volume of suspected marijuana fruiting tops, and stalks in a blue bag estimated to command a street price of at least P90 thousand, a white Mitsubishi Adventure vehicle with license plates KCH-239.

Abellanosa said the suspect planned to dispose the marijuana in a week  to his customers that included students from various schoolsuniversities and members of prominent families.

Police said they were preparing to press charges against Trinidad.

Over the weekend, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Bulua police arrested three other suspects in a buy-and-bust operation in Zone 1B, Barangay Iponan.

Bulua police chief Alves Alfeche identified the suspects as Marvin Baguio, 28, Jeric Mabaylan, 29, and Marlon Tabonan, 32.

Chief Insp. Alfeche said they seized three sachets of suspected shabu, impovised tooters and other paraphernalia.

Alfeche said the suspected shabu weighed about 1.69 grams.

Officers also took back P1 thousand in marked money, P950 of alleged drug proceeds, a caliber .22 revolver and eight bullets. Police said they were preparing to file charges. (herbie gomez and lito rulona)
