The video clip was shown to reporters along with the family of Barangay Chairman Dipatuan. The victim’s father, Jaffaar, identified the suspect as one Mansawi Sarip.

Lanao del Sur provincial director Senior Supt. John Guygoyon confirmed the suspect’s identity adding that the suspect is a former Police Officer 1 assigned in regional headquarters of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao before he was dismissed  in 2016 from the service when he did not report to his next assignment in Luzon.

Guygoyon said they have started a manhunt operation against Sarip and his cohorts.

“Since the suspects are from Lanao del Sur, we are coordinating with the elders to mediate for a possible solution through family settlement and the perpetrators to surrender. However, it is the effort of the Iligan City police but we are also doing our mandate as law enforcement in the area,” Guyguyan said.

He added that an investigation is being conducted by the unit and eventually when completed the case will be filed against the suspects.

For his part, Col. Alex Aduca, commander of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, a partner of the police in securing the city, is hoping the incident in Pala-o will not happen again.

He advised the family who are having clan feuds (rido) to inform them for a possible prevention of  possible harm to both parties and urge them to cooperate with the authorities in finding solutions to their rido.

“This is isolated case but if another incident occurs it will cause a negative image to our community,” Aduca said.

Vice Mayor Jaffar Dipatuan said two of the getaway vehicles  a crosswind and a Hi-Lux pick-up used in the ambush of his son were recovered by the police from different areas in Iligan City with the help of witnesses.

It can be recalled that the younger Dipatuan was wounded in an ambush in Baranagy Pala-o after taking dinner in one of the restaurants with his three sisters before heading to Cagayan de Oro City when the incident happen.

In the same development, Iligan City Police Director Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga reacted to the allegations of some camps that there were no policeman in the area when the ambush happened.

“Perhaps the policemen who were assigned in the area are having round-ups when the incident happened,” Ga said.
