THE city council failed to have a regular session yesterday due to a lack of quorum, prompting Councilor Roger Abaday to suggest to the presiding officer to have their colleagues “arrested” unless they gave valid reasons for their absence.

Only six councilors came for the scheduled session yesterday: councilors Roger Abaday, Edna Dahino, Lourdes Darimbang, Dometelio Acenas, Alden Bacal and Ramon Tabor.

The rest were a no-show, including Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas.

Councilor Abaday expressed his disappointment over the city council’s failure to have a quorum, saying there were very important matters that the local legislature needed to tackle.

Abaday said he would have delivered a special report about farm-to-market roads in the city.

He asked Councilor Tabor, who presided over the meeting, if he knew the reason for the absence of members of the city council majority but the latter replied that he was unaware.

Abaday said he then suggested to Tabor to have the other members of the council “arrested.”

Incidentally, many of those who did not attend the session were seen joining demonstrators outside the Court of Appeals (CA) earlier. (nitz arancon)
