CITY hall has no traffic rerouting plan as thousands of students start trooping to schools today.
The reason: lack of roads.
“Wala na man tay bakanting dalan. Asa man nato ieroute?” asked lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy, chairman of city hall’s Task Force Hapsay Dalan.
Uy told the Gold Star Daily over the weekend that all the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) can do is field its people to manage the vehicular traffic flow in strategic areas.
He admitted he was worried over how today’s opening of classes would impact on the city’s traffic situation.
The school opening is feared to aggravate the traffic problem caused by the public works department’s ongoing Bitan-ag Bridge project on CM Recto Ave. near the state-owned Mindanao University of Science and Technology (Must).
“Tawo ra gyud ang atong magamit ug atong ipangplastar sa mga dalan labi na ang mga du-ol sa mga tungha-an,” Uy said.
He said the RTA still has a “comprehensive traffic plan” that includes the strict enforcement of a rule against motorela and trisikad operations on Vamenta Blvd., around Carmen market, Mastersons Ave. up to the Rodelsa circle area, among others.
Uy said he was expecting the motorela and trisikad operators and drivers to protest but “dili man mahimo sila ang magbo-ot kay alang man kini sa kaayohan sa tanan.”
He said the RTA would work to decongest Vamenta Blvd. in the hope this would result in a better vehicular traffic flow in the Divisoria and Cogon areas, the Maharlika Bridge all the way to Agora in Lapasan.
