FOR an effective campaign in protecting children’s rights from different kinds of abuse, the City Council committees on social services, on police and on barangay affairs respectively chaired by Councilors Reuben Daba, Romeo Calizo, and Yan Lam Lim will jointly convene to look into the proper implementation of Ordinance No. 13195-2017, otherwise known as the “Parental Responsibility Code of Cagayan de Oro.”
This is in relation to the special report of Councilor Enrico Salcedo, former chair of the committee on social services, during the regular session on Monday that the city government should properly implement the ordinance through closer coordination between the City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) and the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children.
Salcedo said the CCPC through the City Social Welfare and Development is conducting information and education campaign about the ordinance with students and parents in various schools in the city.
“Isip usa ka ginika-nan, kita anaa man gayud dakong responsibilidad sa atong mga anak, anaa kanato magsugod ang pagtudlo sa mga maayong butang nga ila dapat masunod,” he said.
The councilor said, through the BCPC, the barangay level has their counterpart in ensuring the protection of children’s rights. Numerous issues and concerns are addressed at the barangay levels, for they can closely monitor the activities of the residents of their jurisdiction, he added.
Salcedo said President Rodrigo Duterte has mandated to implement the campaign against loiterers. This will also cover minors for their safety, he said.
The councilor explained that minors who are violators of the mandate will be brought to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
However, he said, under the Parental Code, a minor will be brought to the barangay.
“Busa dako kaayo ang role kay dili lang ang pag-organize kun dili dapat aktibo usab sila sa pagpatuman niini,” he said. (cli)
