COUNCILOR Alexander Dacer yesterday hinted of a new legal battle brewing at city hall following the announcement that the Court of Appeals (CA) gave Mayor Oscar Moreno a two-month reprieve in connection with the ombudsman’s dismissal order.

Dacer, who has been serving as spokesman of the Padayon Pilipino, said he has yet to see and read a copy of the CA order but added that they likely would contest it.

“In-ana man jud ang dagan sa panahon,” said Dacer, adding that his group would leave matters in the hands of their lawyers. “For sure, they (lawyers) know how to deal with that.”

Dacer said there would likely be legal fireworks on Monday. “Tabla, Sabado man ugma (today). So sa Lunes na lang,” Dacer said.

Before the tables were turned, the mayorship of Caesar Ian Acenas was already picking up steam especially after the city council officially recognized the vice mayor as Moreno’s successor. He and his vice mayor, Lourdes Darimbang, occupied city hall’s top two posts for about 22 hours since Thursday night until the announcement of the CA order late afternoon yesterday.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) recognized Acenas, and had him installed as mayor the night before.

Earlier in the day, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano congratulated Acenas.

He said he was happy for Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental for having leaders belonging to the same political group, and he pledged to support Acenas.
